The Yowza Bonita is a mid priced elliptical. It has just been released by Yowza Fitness so it has their latest technological enhancements that they make on their fitness equipment on a regular basis.
The resistance system is a servo motor direct drive this means it will last longer than the ellipticals where you apply the resistance by turning a knob. All the components of the Bonita have length of service in mind.
As the Yowza Fitness range is quite recent so is their console. It's not the best console we've seen which is why it gets 4 stars out of 5. It does the job of displaying everything you need to see to see how your workout is progressing. This information changes as you ride giving up to date statistics as you ride so you can speed up or slow down as required.
You can easily change functions on this console as the buttons are all clearly labeled. The display is backlit blue with large numbers. The start and stop buttons are nice and big so you have something to aim at if you need to press the stop button during a tiring workout. Any changes you need to make are easily accessible and you'll see the display changes as you do.
There are 12 preset programs which offer a variety of training exercises for the beginner as will as the advanced elliptical user. The display tells you your time, distance and calories so these can also be targeted in the programs. You can set a target to reach of those 3 readings. You can then train to the number going up or down to the target as you train.
I like the random program with 50 different variations. This means you can always be challenged with a different routine every time. There's an endurance and interval program each with 8 different intensity levels. There's a watt program which measures your power so you can't cheat it by turning the resistance down low.
A fat burning program will burn your calories just where you need it most in the buttocks and thigh regions. The heart rate control will have you training to your maximum working heart rate. As you experiment you'll find out which programs you like and they'll work for you better as time goes on. These programs offer a nice variety for your workout, 4 stars.
The stride motion is reversible if you want to work out a different part of your legs and is silent so you'll be able to hear any music or a TV that maybe on. This means you can use music or other devices as an extra motivational tool as you workout. You'll workout longer and better without realizing. Your workouts will become easier over time.
The stride length is 18" so this can cater to people of short or long legs. If you look at the video you can see that the Bonita uses a counter rotational handle bars for exercising the upper body. This gives you a far better workout that exercises the whole of the arms, shoulders and the core of the body.
The pedals are specially designed with the perfect spacing between them. This means you have a more natural ride as you stride. This also means you have less stress on your legs which is already favorable it being an elliptical trainer. This will particularly help people in less shape as they get a comfortable workout.
Max user weight
The maximum user weight is 331 lbs or 150 kg. Although this will be enough for most elliptical users even some obese people won't be more than this we've given it 3 stars as you can buy better. This is about average for an elliptical like this and you only really need higher if you do weigh a lot.
The warranty for the Bonita is lifetime for the frame and braking system, 3 years parts and 1 year in home labor. You can extend the warranty for a price. We've given this 3 stars as well as it is average for an elliptical of this price. You can do better if you're willing to pay a bit more. However if this fitness your price range and you like the elliptical then you can so a lot worse.
At the time of writing this Bonita is $1,299.00. This is good value for what you're getting and is consistent with all Yowza Fitness elliptical. You can buy cheaper but we think for what you're getting we give this deserves a 4 star rating. You'll get a good workout with many features to help enhance your enjoyment and use of it.
Overall the Bonita is one up from the cheapest elliptical that Yowza Fitness make and at $1,299.00, you get some bang for your buck. There are a few items that bring the score down and that is the maximum user weight and the warranty. However for the price the warranty is ok but it being only 3 years parts and 1 year labor I can't mark it any higher than 3 stars.
The maximum user weight is standard for Yowza Fitness, it is only their high end ellipticals that have a better maximum user weight. Although like the warranty for the price it is fine. You can just get better on higher end machines. Plus you always feel that an elliptical that can take a higher user weight is likely to last longer.
If you're after an elliptical to get a good workout in the home then the Bonita is a good choice if that's what you can afford. If price is not a problem then a higher priced elliptical will give you far more features, a better warranty, console and user weight and that can be just for a few hundred more dollars and it can still be Yowza Fitness. So overall I give the Yowza Bonita 73%.
